How often should you use hand lotion?

It’s not easy to answer this question. How often should you use hand lotion? Well, this might be because many have their own opinion. Some would even tell you that it depends on your skin type and the kind of hand lotion you’re using. This is far from trust.

One thing is sure ---Whatever your skin type is – you need to apply hand lotion regularly, especially to keep your hands soft, healthy, and cosmetically pleasing.

Besides, let's start by answering the following question; how often should you use hand lotion?

Let’s look at it in more detail :)

How often? General opinion

Many would think that how often you should use hand lotion depends on your skin type, but rather, there is no set rule when it comes to how often you should use hand cream.

To be honest there is no right or wrong answer!!!

What I mean by that is that many have different opinions and suggestions. Some people recommend using it every time after washing your hands. Something that I do too!

Dermatologists also recommend using a moisturizer after every washing, before bedtime, and whenever your skin feels dry.

Nevertheless, other experts recommend applying lotion every time you wash your hands for healthy, smooth hands.

There are many opinions, as you can see. So, the main question that arises is:

Should I use a hand lotion after contact with water? (-let’s look into it 😊 )

First off, we're not going to knock proper hand hygiene—washing your hands regularly is essential. However, frequent washing can strip your skin of important barrier lipids, resulting in cracks and scaly, itchy skin. Therefore, restoring those lipids with a hand cream rich in nutrients is important.

As the water dries out the skin, applying lotion is a great countermeasure. As a reminder, keep a bottle of hand lotion by your bathroom sink. Additionally, you should reapply whenever your hands feel particularly dehydrated.

I use a hand lotion whenever my hands come into contact with water to prevent my hands from drying out. Trust me when I tell you that my hands can get pretty dry pretty quickly after coming in contact with water. Which is why I constantlyuse a hand lotion right after! It’s like I’m addicted to it! I use hand lotion every time my hands touch the water.

For some, it might seem strange and exaggerated, but for me, it's just part of my routine since I'm an aspiring hand model.

So should you be using a hand lotion this often?

Of course not, and the rule of thumb would be to use a hand lotion whenever your hands feel dry or dehydrated, and when you are in contact with water (which causes your hands to dry more quickly) -but that is not a requirement. AGAIN, JUST WHEN YOU FEEL THAT THEY ARE DRY. Don’t FEEL obligated to wash your hands every time that they’re in contact with water.

Moisturizers and hand lotion

Most people think of hand lotion as a body lotion, a specially formulated product that falls between a moisturizer and a body cream. It’s a skincare formula that promises to keep skin soft and supple. The best hand lotion for dry skin is a formula that is rich and creamy.

Let’s now briefly look at some of the benefits of applying hand lotion.

Benefits of regularly using hand lotion

The hands age as fast as the face does - and they're exposed to just as much UV damage as the face daily, so it's worth the effort. In addition to enhancing skin elasticity and moisture levels, and preventing chapping and cracking, you will combat premature signs of ageing.

You should invest in high-quality hand cream, however, to help replenish your skin's lipids. A quality hand cream can fill in cracks and keep the skin supple even if your hands are dry, you work with them, or if they're just generally rough and parched.

It is best to select a formula rich in nourishing oils and butter to restore those lipids.

My favourite hydrating cream!:

The one that I adore is Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Intensive Relief Hand Cream!

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Intensive Relief Hand Cream provides effective and long-lasting relief from severely dry, itchy, and irritated hands. This luxuriously creamy formula moisturizes, softens, and soothes sensitive skin.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Hand Cream moisturizes and softens dry, cracked hands. Made with moisturising Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E; Cocoa Butter is naturally rich in antioxidants (Cocoa Mass Polyphenols) which improve skin healing and protects the moisture barrier. In addition, it contains no fragrance. I have been using it for about a month now and so far I’m liking it!

Regardless of opinions, the solution is clear – using hand lotion effectively and generously is the best answer.

No matter how often you use a hand lotion, remember that it will benefit your hands over time! It's not necessary to use it excessively like I do unless you're obsessed with your hands like me. ;D
